The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) is the fifth-largest school district in California located in southern Sacramento County. EGUSD covers 320 square miles and includes 65 schools: 40 elementary schools, nine middle schools, nine high schools, five alternative education schools, an adult school, one charter school and a virtual academy. Offering a multitude of educational programs, including over 40 career-themed academies and pathways within 13 industry sectors, we prepare our students for college and career by supporting them with the means to be creative problem solvers; self-aware, self-reliant, and self-disciplined; technically literate; effective communicators and collaborators; and engaged in the community as individuals with integrity.
EGUSD has adopted LANGUAGE! Live California, a comprehensive English Language Arts curriculum from Voyager Sopris Learning for 7-12 grade intervention. Provider of evidence-based preK-12 instructional solutions and professional services, Voyager Sopris Learning designed its curriculum solution to specifically help struggling adolescent readers and writers achieve grade-level reading expectations.
The LANGUAGE! Live California adoption follows an extensive review process and three-month pilot program within the district, which directly compared the solution’s success against that of leading competitors. LANGUAGE! Live has been shown to significantly improve student performance while meeting the California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the California ELA/ELD Framework.
Located in southern Sacramento County, Elk Grove Unified School District serves more than 62,000 students in 65 schools. The state’s fifth largest K-12 school district, covering more than 320 square miles, lies in one of California’s most diverse areas where students speak more than 88 languages and dialects.
“Elk Grove Unified School District is a progressive leader in K-12 education,” says Jeffrey A. Elliott, President, Voyager Sopris Learning. “We couldn’t be more proud to partner with Elk Grove Unified School District in strengthening ELA/ELD instruction throughout the district. Having recently completed a highly successful pilot program, we’re excited to see the power of LANGUAGE! Live California extended district wide.”
Superintendent Christopher R. Hoffman says, “We know that if students are reading on grade level by the end of third grade, they’re far more likely to graduate and go on to be successful compared to their peers who are reading below grade level. Our investment in LANGUAGE! Live is our commitment to help all of our struggling students build the necessary literacy skills to ensure the same post-high school opportunities as their peers.
