Technology is constantly advancing. In 2017, breakthrough technologies will change the way we do business, the way our government operates, and even the way our own bodies work.
There’s a lot of new technology to wade through in order to find the true technology that will change lives. Today’s breakthrough, at times, turns into tomorrow’s bust. Then again, new technology from today could be the building block for entire new businesses of tomorrow. Think of how Linux changed computing forever.
Luckily, the MIT Technology Review has released its yearly roundup of breakthrough technologies. These ten technologies have been introduced in 2017 and will change our lives in the immediate and distant future.
We already know that the world is changing due to Internet of Things (IoT). The breakthrough technology of years passed has led to connected devices in the home and at the office – smart thermostats and locks, connected lighting and shades, and devices like Google Home and Amazon Alexa are only a glimpse into what the world will look like when IoT is fully adopted.
The breakthrough technologies of 2017 build on IoT and start introducing new and imaginative ways that connected devices will interact with the world. Some of the highlights include self-driving trucks and facial recognition systems that authorize payments.
It’s not all about connected devices, though. Some devices are new and unique on their own. This new, breakthrough technology will give us new insights into ourselves and the world around us. Things like the cell atlas, new gene therapy, and ways to reverse paralysis will offer us ways to allow technology to interact with our own biology and give us new capabilities.
It’s truly an incredible time to be alive. New technology is springing up almost daily. The rate of technological breakthroughs is rapidly increasing.
