Digital signage has become a staple in many colleges and universities. Displays can be used in a number of ways, inside and outside of the classroom and lecture hall.
Advanced digital signage systems can be deployed throughout a campus. These systems involve setting up displays throughout hallways in a building, and buildings all throughout campus, and running content to these displays for multiple reasons. Wayfinding helps students reach class more easily. Calendars let students know about the different events happening in and around campus. Weather and twitter feeds give students up-to-date information about the school itself, and help them navigate the changing landscape inherent at any university.
Video walls are a form of digital signage used to stand out among the masses. Video walls can hold all of the same information that a digital signage system sends out to single displays – making that information larger than life and ensuring it draws student attention. Video walls can also be used to display videos of the campus and raise the profile of the university. You might even just display the name of the school and welcome those visiting.
Don’t forget about the classroom itself either. Interactive displays allow today’s millennial students to interact with content and lesson plans in ways that mimic the technology they grew up with. Digital signage in the classroom can allow for more dynamic presentations, and therefore dynamic learning. Students can send their own content to the screen, can pull up a web browser to search for relevant content related to the day’s lesson, and pull up an interactive whiteboard in order to start brainstorming ideas for a project.
However your college or university wishes to utilize digital signage is up to you. One thing is for certain, though – digital signage has added an entirely new layer to colleges and universities.
