While the installation of the hardware proved to be rather simple, connecting the JTouch interactive displays to the schools’ Mac computers was an unexpected challenge Parks and InFocus had to work together to overcome.
“A Mac driver had to be updated and it took a few days get it all fixed up. InFocus had to do the update to get it working properly and once that was done, we were in good shape,” says Parks. “InFocus was really quick and on the ball to get it taken care of. They sent an onsite rep to come out within a day or so and they got it fixed up and we were ready to roll.”
Since that time, the district has purchased Intel Nuc computers to be paired with the JTouch interactive displays in addition to the Mac computers.
The benefits of the JTouch interactive displays go beyond a simple and cost-effective installation process. The touch-enabled LCD screen allows students to actively participate in classroom activities, engages them in learning and allows for more collaboration and interaction in the classroom.
At Dublin Independent Schools, students are much more engaged in learning since the implementation of the interactive displays, and teachers have taken notice.
“The teachers like [the technology] because the students are actually engaged in the lesson and not just trying to keep their eyes open. They’re actually engaged and paying attention,” says Parks.
Furthermore, because the JTouch interactive displays can be paired with any internet-enabled device and do not require additional software or hardware, the interactive displays evolve with the classroom as technology becomes more innovative and advanced.
“The interactive display itself is an extension of other pieces. Things are always evolving. You don’t want to lock yourself into what you know today because tomorrow there are going to be brand new tools or brand new software,” says Detwiler. “Teachers and students will be able to use [this new technology] because they picked an interactive display that connects to all of those tools… with JTouch, there are no hard ties. You can evolve the classroom as new things come out and new technologies are released.”
The JTouch Interactive displays are also user-friendly and rather intuitive, with students’ fingers essentially acting as the mouse and keyboard of a traditional computer or laptop.
With interactive technology such as InFocus’ JTouch interactive displays, school districts like Dublin Independent School District can benefit from an enhanced learning experience through interacting with digital media.
“A big part of what we’re trying to do is get everybody to interact with [the JTouch interactive displays]. Our students love it and our teachers love it,” says Parks.
