Companies have already started cranking out a variety of Ultra High-Def (4K) displays. Now, it’s up to the broadcasters to deliver some applicable content. While they work on that, you can work on an easy system upgrade. Luckily, Gefen is making the switch easier, with a variety of new signal distribution solutions designed for not just 4K, but a variety of applications.
First up are a trio of new Ultra HD Splitters. These new wall-mountable options provide 1:2, 1:4 and 1:8 signal distributions. These can split a signal source that uses HDMI into two, four and eight outputs—each of which includes automatic EDID management to keep that quality signal intact.
If you’re not willing to split that high-quality signal, you can share it, via new Ultra HD Switchers. One 4×1 Switcher can integrate up to four sources on one display. There are also two matrix switchers available. The 4×2 Matrix can flip between four sources using HDMI and two independent outputs, while the 6×2 Matrix uses Ultra HD chip technology to put six HDMI-equipped components on two different displays.
Next up, Gefen has introduced a variety of matrix products for HDMI with HDBaseT extension. The 16×16 and the 32×32 modular frames with 8 ELR outputs come in 5U and 6U rack enclosures with outputs in 8x increments. The 16×16 Modular Matrix with ELR routes up to 16 sources to any or all 16 extended outputs. There’s also the 32×32 Modular Matrix with ELR, which routes any 32 sources to any or all 32 extended outputs. Signal extension using 8x ELR modules sends HDMI up to 330 feet using one Cat5 cable per output. ELR is based on HDBaseT and enables a reliable transmission of high-definition video up to 1080p full HD with lossless audio. All ELR receivers are included and both products also support HDCP compliance.
If you’re needing something simple to deliver computer or cloud-based audio, Gefen has a new USB to Audio Decoder. Promising up to 192kHz audio, this enclosure is compact enough to fit in your palm, but can output digital (optical) or analog (L/R) two-channel audio using the USB port on the computer or laptop.
For those long range-signals, Gefen has a few new extenders. The DVI ELR (Extra Long Range) Lite can do DVI up to 230 feet over one Cat5 cable, while the DisplayPort KVM Extender over CAT-7 deliver 2560-by-1600 resolutions with two USB 2.0 peripherals up to 100 feet using three Cat7 cables.
Last in the new line is a pair of new scalers. The GefenPRO HDVI to 3GSDI Scaler can switch between DVI and HDMI, as well as output video as 3GSDI with backwards compatibility with all SDI formats. When converting HDMI, up to eight channels of audio are supported and output as S/PDIF coaxial. High-res video can be scaled up to 1080p or 2K. The GefenPRO 3GSDI to 3GSDI Scaler, on the other hand, offers additional frame synchronization features to improve video quality and performance. It can up or downscale any SDI source to any SDI display, supporting ED-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI formats, as well as scale up to 1080p or 2K.
