My TechDecisions Podcast Episode 120: Remote Access and Critical Infrastructure
Damon Small, technical director of security consulting at NCC Group North America, joins the podcast to discuss a recent attack on a Florida water system.

In this episode of the My TechDecisions Podcast, Associate Editor Zachary Comeau speaks with Damon Small, technical director of security consulting at NCC Group North America, about the recent cyber attack on the Oldsmar, Fla. water treatment facility.
According to officials and news reports, an unauthorized user attempted to increase the levels of a chemical to an amount that could have made the city’s drinking water poisonous. The attacker attempted to do so through the popular remote access software TeamViewer.
However, news reports suggest that all staff used the same password and that computer systems were running on Windows 7, which Microsoft no longer supports.
Small, a seasoned cybersecurity expert, says there are also much more secure ways to deploy remote access software, including via a VPN.
