January 7, 2015 TD Staff Leave a Comment

Security experts and analysts Bill Bozeman, John Brady, Peter Giacalone, Sandy Jones, Jeff Kessler and Marshall Marinace look at where the marketplace has come in the past year and where it is going in 2015.

Trends

  • Cybersecurity became a frontline issue for both physical security integrators and manufacturers
  • Security product offerings continued to migrate to cloud-based offerings, creating both ambiguity and opportunity for integrators
  • Video verification continued to take hold as an integral portion of the intrusion protection system
  • Local legislation continued to call for/ require increased utilization of life-safety and access systems to be in compliance
  • Security and nonsecurity organizations continued to expand into the solar energy business
  • Growing threats and chaos added complexity to the risks and responsibilities of the CSO
  • Improved analytics empowered new tools in compliance, anti-fraud, forensics and network status and security
  • The transition from analog to IP cameras moved into the mainstream and firmly took hold

Challenges

  • Developing and executing a solid plan for transitioning installed base of customers from 2G to alternative alarm communications
  • Getting end users of all sizes to finally recognize the password is dead, and that “next gen” analysis, authentication, quarantining and “sandboxing” is critically needed
  • VSaaS and other cloud-based solutions, particularly in video, still need to prove out security and ROI concerns to meet elevated expectations of value proposition
  • Making analytics more useful and affordable in order to convert the deluge of data to concise and actionable information in real time
  • Understanding, structuring and leveraging the vast data from subscribers of remote managed services toward better subscriber support, relations and expansion
  • The evolution of signal platforms continues to push forward faster than the industry is prepared to adapt to such changes
  • Meeting the demands of the end user by providing a truly integrated system vs. utilizing multiple vendors for a specific project
  • The slow growth economy continues to make an impact
