Protecting the interior of a convention center has always been of primary importance. But there’s a lot that can happen outdoors, too. That’s why the George R. Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco has invested in a solution from V5 Systems. The company’s V5 Portable Security Unit (V5 PSU) provides the security team at the convention center with situational awareness around the facility, enabling real-time monitoring via a smartphone app.
“The V5 PSU give us a broader overview than our legacy systems could previously accommodate,” says Damion Ellis, director of safety and security for the Moscone Center. “With V5 Systems units’ real-time monitoring, we’ll have visibility where needed. And because it’s a cloud-based system, it allows for collaborative security.”
The Moscone Center had previously employed a fixed camera system throughout the building where access to power and communications is available. Missing in this surveillance plan were monitoring of the Center’s outdoor areas, such as parking garages and surrounding streets. Integrating a system that could cover a facility that sprawls across three blocks in the core of a major city was the objective of the team at Stadium Management Group.
“Our wireless, self-powered units provide the flexibility and scalability needed to monitor previously inaccessible areas, so attendees and locals alike can feel safe,” says Mazin Bedwan, V5 Systems president and co-founder. “The V5 units give us the flexibility to easily reposition and monitor trouble spots. It allows for a wise use of resources that keeps us from becoming heavy handed with our local homeless population. It benefits everyone,” adds Ellis.
As a bonus, V5 Systems’ wireless units employ “edge computing.” This enables each unit to process information at the point of contact without the needed for sending information back and forth from a server or human interaction.
V5 Systems solutions also include:
- Surveillance and license-plate reading utilizing HD video
- Acoustic detection that today isolates the sound of a gunshot and relays information within seconds –directly to staff
- Real-time edge analytics to detect people and vehicles in defined zones
