Trend #8: Malicious macOS installers
The adage “Macs don’t get viruses,” isn’t 100% true. In 2021, the information security community saw malware targeting macOS systems. However, Red Canary observed far fewer malicious documents or email attachments on Mac OS systems compared to Windows systems. The malware that it did observe on Mac OS systems, stems from malicious installers that trick victims into thinking they’re downloading legitimate content, such as malicious adware.
