Group chat platform HipChat is reaching out to users thanks to a data breach by an unknown hacker. The hacker stole data including group chat logs, customer names, email addresses, and hashed password information.
HipChat says the hacker was able to access the information thanks to a vulnerability in a third-party software library used by HipChat.com.
HipChat has invalidated all affected passwords, and emailed reset instructions to affected users. However, the passwords stolen should be very difficult to crack, as they use the bcrypt algorithm, with random salt on each password for additional protection.Return To Article
