A new study from LogMeIn, executed by IDG, finds that IT leaders are increasingly concerned about security and the scalability of remote work tools being utilized during the COVID-19 pandemic. As organizations continue to work remotely and adopt a hybrid work model, changes will have to be made, the study finds.
According to the study, 65% of IT leaders surveyed are actively consolidating remote work tools to take some of the burden off of the IT department and make it easier to administer and scale the new remote work tools.
The study suggests IT leaders need to do more when it comes to cybersecurity, as 66% of respondents said they were exposed to cyber risks and struggle to securely support workers.
According to the data, 31% said they expect to use vulnerable devices when working remotely, and 45% will rely exclusively on unsecured home Wi-Fi networks this year.
That is leading IT teams to find integrated remote access and support solutions, the study suggests, as 60% of respondents said they are considering increasing investment in remote work tools, with spending expected to grow by 21% this year.
The study also found that 84% said remote work tools enhance productivity, and two-thirds are actively consolidating remote work tools with a trusted vendor in 2021.
The research indicates that IT leaders want remote access and support solutions that offer more security while maintaining user productivity, said Barbara Call, IDG’s senior director of content strategy and operations.
“The study shows that IT leaders should prioritize remote access and support tools that minimize disruptions for remote workers and make users feel supported wherever and however they work,” Call said in a statement. “Companies need to invest for the future, not just the pandemic. The respondents say they should consider consolidating their remote work portfolio in order to focus on solutions that reduce IT headaches and remove complexity from day-to-day roles,” she added.
