The Techbooks also assist teachers in improving instruction and providing personalized learning to students through their comprehensive design that consists of model lessons, student activities and assessments. Furthermore, the Techbooks’ interactive features have the ability to change reading levels and have text read aloud, and also provide teachers with instant feedback regarding a student’s performance on an activity or assessment.

“The teachers are now bringing in digital resources that will give them instant feedback, so instead of having to wait to grade papers or sit individually with students, through the Techbooks they get instance feedback and data from the student, and the teacher can communicate directly back with the student through the resource,” says Rexrode.

Professional development and teachers’ willingness to learn about the new technology are two vital contributors to the success of the implementation of Discovery Ed’s Streaming Plus service and Techbooks. In the first year of using Discovery Ed, a few teachers chose to lead a group of colleagues to share their experiences, challenges, and tips regarding their use of Discovery Ed. Over 96 teachers registered for these after school sessions, and it has greatly helped teachers understand how to use the technology to improve their instruction.

“We say at Discovery that teachers are their own best asset. There is nobody out there that can tell them better than another teacher, one that is doing it every day with fidelity,” says Rexrode.

With the implementation of Discovery Ed, along with teachers and students’ willingness to use the technology, Rowan-Salisbury has been able to provide its students with CCRP learning experiences.

“CCRP learning is what all of our teachers are trying to do every day in their classrooms to provide those engaging and rigorous activities and learning in the classroom. Discovery Ed has really made it easier for our teachers to have those CCRP lessons in their classrooms because of the resources,” says Crilley.
