One of the most important aspects of teaching is having the ability to engage students in the content they are responsible for learning. Perhaps equally important, teachers need to be able to adequately measure what concepts and materials students are understanding and what concepts need to be worked on further.
With recent advancements in educational software, many schools can now rely on one technology to both engage students and receive instant feedback from activities, projects, and quizzes.
Don Estridge High Tech Middle School ,located in Boca Raton, Florida, decided to take advantage of the educational software available on the market to help improve instruction, engage students, and provide an overall improved classroom experience for both teachers and students.
After receiving a grant that enabled the school to purchase iPads, Don Estridge chose to implement Turning Technologies’ Insight 360 Cloud software, an instructional platform that combines numerous forms of educational technology with clickers, interactive whiteboards, and mobile devices with ExamView content together in one application.
“I demoed Insight 360 when it first came out and helped Don Estridge get going with the pilot and the pilot was successful. We sold it to them and trained their staff on how to use it and coached them in the classroom using the technology,” says Billy Garren, senior solutions manager for eInstruction for Turning Technologies.
The cloud-based software is launched via a Teacher App or Mobi 360 device, and therefore allows teachers greater mobility during lessons.
“The Insight 360 Teacher App on teachers’ iPads at Don Estridge allows them to wirelessly control their computer and ask questions during the instruction so the students can answer on different devices,” says Garren.
Instructional material can be accessed online and through tablets, whiteboards or traditional projectors. Included in the Insight 360 software is pre-created content such as interactive questions and different forms of multimedia.
“I have to tell you that was probably the best thing I could have ever tried with my classes,” says Shelley Stein, a sixth grade math teacher at Don Estridge High Tech Middle School. “The children absolutely love using the iPads, they love using the Insight 360, and they love the opportunity to actually write their answers and be able to see what they’re doing and see them up on the board.”
Insight 360 Cloud has allowed teachers to receive instant feedback on students’ responses from their clickers, smartphones or tablets. The software grades students’ responses and teachers are able to see each student’s response in real time, rather than having to grade responses after class or by hand.
