Mobile device use has continued to explode in schools across the country, so it’s no surprise that BYOD and 1-1 learning initiatives are a major theme at ISTE 2013 for the 2013/14 school year.  Many conference sessions focused on the implementation and funding of mobile learning initiatives and the show floor was full of tools to help you. From devices specifically designed for K-12 education like the LearnPad or the Amplify Tablet, to a convertible Toshiba Ultrabook, there was a device for every need.

However, as anyone who has studied the BYOD movement or tried to implement a 1-1 learning initiative knows, it takes more than devices to be successful. You need engaging, interactive and collaborative content and assignments to keep students focused and on track. You need a way to manage the devices in your classrooms and to monitor how students use the devices. More practically, you need a way to charge and update those devices simultaneously. K-12 learning environments can also be unpredictable and students often subject their devices to less than ideal conditions, making the proper case an important investment.

This round up features 13 tools from the ISTE show floor as well as some more recent announcements that will help you as you begin to embrace mobile devices in the classroom. I’ve included tablets, an Ultrabook, laptops, mobile device management tools, tablet cases collaborative technologies and more.
