“You really have to look at your district and make the decision to draw the line in the sand and make sure your kids are getting what they need because if they don’t get what they need in early literacy, they have no chance,” says Cianfarano. “We have a pretty high percentage of primary kids who have speech issues that are so low it impacts their English language arts. They can’t speak, but they’re supposed to read and write? If they can’t read and write, they can’t be successful. I look at PresenceLearning as a partner with us for literacy more than I do speech. That’s how every school should be approaching it.”
PresenceLearning’s online speech therapy program provides students with a personal, online licensed clinician to work with them to improve their speech, language and literacy skills. Students have scheduled sessions with the same therapist each week, and the length and amount of sessions per week is based on their own personal needs and progression.
“The interesting thing about the sessions is there are multiple means of engagement,” says Clay Whitehead, co-founder and co-CEO of PresenceLearning. “We are doing visual learning and live video through a variety of different stimuli. We have an online therapy library of 50,000 different pieces of content that is all tagged by age level and goals. It is everything from drill sheets, to workbooks, to games, and it is all searchable, too.”
