9 Project Management Apps for Your Smartphone or Tablet

xPlan

xPlan uses Gantt charts to help you manage your projects. Available for the iPad, after purchasing you can install on up to five devices. Keep a timeline of your project, add tasks and color code, and assign different users to different tasks when necessary.

Project Planning Pro

Project Planning Pro is a mobile project management app with a number of awards available for the iPad. Create task lists or work breakdown structures (WBS) to manage projects. Enter durations, add dependencies, and assign resources to make sure everyone is on the same page. You can easily share your projects as a PDF, CSV, or XML file.

AceProject

AceProject mobile allows for simple, informal project management intended for those without professional knowledge. It allows you to track projects, manage portfolios, manage tasks, and add dependencies. It also allows for document and timesheet management. The free Hosted Basic package lets you create unlimited users, 2 projects, 50 tasks and provides 250 MB of storage space.

PMWrike

Wrike is a personal project management app that allows you to keep all of your work items at your fingertips no matter where you are. Prioritize and check off your to-do list. Create, assign, tag, and set due dates. Participate in task discussion and give feedback. Add images and files to tasks when necessary.

SmartTime

SmartTime offers total integration with your iPhone. When you create a new task or appointment, just select a person’s name from the Contact list to integrate their phone number and address directly into SmartTime. Tap on the item to dial or text them directly, or to pop up a Google map that shows their address. You can also use email to share Smart tasks with any other SmartTime user; the task will automatically be integrated into their schedule.

Smartsheet

Smartsheet for iPhone/iPad is a mobile companion to the online work collaboration tool. It combines a familiar spreadsheet interface with file sharing, automated workflows, and interactive Gantt charts. Start by importing your existing files or pick from one of dozens of templates and modify any of them to suit your needs.

Basecamp

Basecamp for iPhone is the official app that is attached with the Basecamp project management software. It allows you to check in on your projects from anywhere, showing you the latest news on each. You can view progress, refer to documents, and make decisions no matter where you are.

Merlin

Merlin iPhone is a companion product for the project management software Merlin 2.7 on OS X. With Merlin iPhone you can now work with your Merlin projects stored on your Macintosh computer or Merlin Server using your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch while you are online. In offline mode you can read all data.

Liquid Planner

LiquidPlanner is a powerful collaboration system for project teams that includes scheduling, tracking, document sharing, and more. The mobile application is designed as a compliment to the online service and focuses on the key features managers and team members want on the go.

In any position in business, it’s not always easy to keep our tasks on track and complete them in time. There is often so much to do it can become overwhelming to manage the various pieces of a project. That goes double (or triple, or more) for when we are working within a team of individuals on a project. Between remote employees that are working from home, PTO days where some members may not be available, setbacks, and drawbacks, team projects add a number of variables that can keep tasks from being completed on time.

Luckily, as companies become more digital, there are new ways to manage your projects, whether in a team of individually, right on your smartphone or tablet. Applications that can be utilized by a number of people, where tasks are set, deadlines are given, and drawbacks can be communicated as soon as they arise. These apps allow for teams to work together effectively no matter where they are, and they allow project managers to keep an eye on every aspect of as the tasks are being completed, or not.
