7 Features to Look for in a 1:1 Device

The right features can make your device of choice a standout.

September 1, 2014 Chrissy Winske Leave a Comment

Introducing a 1:1 initiative takes a lot of preparation and planning. First, you need to evaluate the technology infrastructure of your district’s buildings and boost or add wireless coverage where you need it. You also have to map out a strategy for deployment, examine network security, train teachers, put together an acceptable use policy and choose a device.

There are many tablets and laptops you could choose to roll out as part of your school’s 1:1 initiative and plenty of success stories to justify your choice regardless of its OS or platform. Success depends largely on whether or not the device you select has the ability to meet the needs of the school community and further its educational goals. Whether you choose to deploy laptops or tablets in your classrooms, your best chance of success occurs when you can identify the goals of the district and the role of technology in achieving those objectives. Is the district looking to implement mobile learning? Does it want to save money by eliminating traditional computer labs? Is it interested in personalized learning? How you answer these questions will determine the technology you choose.

7 Must-Have Features for Your 1:1 Device

Having a clear understanding of what teachers want and what administrators expect can go a long way towards selecting a device that is a good fit for the needs of your school community. While the best features for you will vary depending upon your goals, there are a few basic things to consider when making a purchase. Click on the slide show above for 7 features to look for in a 1:1 device.
