As a part of its ongoing initiative to enhance safety and security, Newtown Public School District is upgrading its on-site security measures with visitor management software developed by Raptor Technologies, a provider of integrated safety technologies for K-12 schools.
In remembrance of the 2012 tragedy that struck the district, Raptor Technologies and the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) jointly sponsored the initial purchase of the Raptor system for the entire district. With the installation of the system, Newtown Public Schools is now able to quickly screen visitors, vendors, and other entrants against a custom watch list as well as against a national database of registered sex offenders.
“Our highest priority is the safety of our students, staff, and visitors,” says Dr. Joseph V. Erardi Jr., superintendent of schools for Newtown Public School District. “By implementing measures like the Raptor system, we are adding to our existing security initiatives to ensure a protective environment, while continuing to foster a positive learning experience for our students.”
Since 2012, Newtown Public School District has continued to enhance its safety measures through exterior and interior security improvements, including adding the presence of a school resource officer in every school.
“We are honored by the fact that Newtown chose Raptor to provide its visitor management software,” says Jim Vesterman, CEO of Raptor Technologies, “and we are proud to work with the National Association of School Resource Officers to contribute to the future security of the district.”
“Visitor entry management is key to strengthening school security. We are honored to have had the opportunity to support Newtown’s efforts as it continues to evolve its safety strategy,” says Mo Canady, NASRO executive director.
Newtown Public School District, which includes Sandy Hook Elementary School, joins more than 70 schools in Connecticut and more than 13,000 K-12 schools throughout the United States that have implemented Raptor’s visitor management system.
