The days of keyfobs and RFID cards are becoming the dinosaurs of the access control world. Linear, a Nortek Security & Control (NSC) company understands this, and has launched a new ecosystem of access control products, aimed squarely at MDUs.
The Linear BluePass credential management solution combines smart device-based electronic credentials with the BluePass mobile credential management cloud and a multi-technology Bluetooth/125 kHz Proximity reader.
“The new Linear BluePass mobile credential ecosystem provides an easier-to-deploy and more secure approach to access credentials,” says NSC VP of Integrated Systems John LaFond. “Reverse-compatible with most 26 to 37-bit Wiegand-based access control systems, it saves costs and the significant time investment that typically prevents customers from upgrading their systems, while giving end-users a simple smart-phone based credential that eliminates the need to carry a fob or card.”
The system includes NSC’s patent-pending Credential-to-Go cards, which can unlock between 5 and 100 mobile credentials in a dealer’s BluePass cloud account. By using the BluePass Cloud Service, dealers can quickly assign credentials to users, who use it to activate the BluePass app on their smartphone. An invitation is sent to the end-users’ email to download the app and their credentials. This saves shipping costs, handling, and time compared to physicals cards and fobs. Plus, the app enables faster credential additions, changes and revocations.
The app communicates with the BluePass Multi-Tech Reader installed at the entry point, giving end-users a convenient, simple means of access.
“With multiple credential credits packaged in cards that are redeemable on the BluePass Cloud, distributors are now able to quickly support dealers with BLE credentials sales with each reader sold,” LaFond emphasizes. “Allowing distribution to easily stock and sell through just like a standard card or fob, BluePass takes electronic credentials ‘mainstream,’ allowing for widespread adoption of the technology.”
