In this episode of MyTechDecisions Podcast, host and TD managing editor Jonathan Blackwood speaks with Adrian Doughty of Nureva about creating dynamic spaces to enable team collaboration, and collaboration in general.

Collaboration technology is term that has a different definition from person to person. Ask someone in the industry what collaboration technology is and they’ll tell you it’s a videoconferencing system. Ask someone else and they’ll tell you it’s an interactive whiteboard. Ask a third person and you’ll find that collaboration technology is an entire suite of video, voice, and messaging applications that run throughout an organization. The fourth person will tell you it’s all of these things and more.

With so many different ideas and theories of what collaboration technology is and does, it can be tough for technology managers to implement collaboration through technology in their organizations. Your mandate might be that the office needs to be more collaborative, and you have no idea where to start.

That’s why we invited Adrian Doughty, National Sales Manager for Nureva, on the podcast. Nureva boasts two powerful collaboration solutions in their Span visual collaboration system and HDL300 audio conferencing system. The Span is an interactive projection canvas featuring an expansive virtual canvas for group collaboration. The HDL300 is a single device system that uses virtual microphones to outfit an entire room with audio pickup. In fact, when Adrian is speaking during the interview it is the HDL300 that is picking up his voice.

Adrian speaks about his definition of collaboration. He explains what he calls the dialect of collaboration, the idea that every company and organization – and even departments within an organization – will collaborate differently. He explains what technology can serve collaboration as the connective bridge between different teams in an organization. He then expands on what types of technologies should be input into different spaces, and how to outfit spaces with the right collaboration technologies in order to get the most out of your system.
