RingCentral has acquired encryption technology from Kindite, a cloud-based security and encryption company that will help create an end-to-end encryption feature in RingCentral’s unified communications platform.
The acquisition will bring Kindite’s cryptographic technologies into RingCentral’s platform to enhance RingCentral’s security features and add end-to-end encryption, a feature in high demand in the videoconferencing and communications space.
According to RingCentral’s press release, the Kindite team has developed a data protection platform that utilizes “a unique set of cryptographic key orchestration technologies” for enhanced security, privacy and compliance.
This allows cloud applications to process encryption data without decryption, which creates a secure “zero-trust” cloud environment, according to Ring Central.

In a statement, Heather Hinton, chief information security officer at RingCentral, said security and reliability are top priorities as organizations continue to shift to a work-from-anywhere model.
“With this team’s leading-edge security technology, we will accelerate our ability to deliver end-to-end encryption and continue to enhance our commitment to deliver the highest level of security capabilities for our global communications platform, benefiting customers everywhere,” she said.
Currently, end-to-end encryption for unified communications serves is few and far between. Zoom, RingCentral’s main competitor, began rolling out an end-to-end encryption offering in October 2020, but other competitors like Microsoft Teams and Google Meet do not have that level of encryption.
“We established Kindite to bring the very latest technological capabilities to address security and privacy in the cloud,” said Maor Cohen, co-founder and CEO of Kindite, in a statement. “It’s fantastic we can bring these security capabilities to customers around the world while enhancing the RingCentral platform with the next generation of security technologies.”
