At least 50 malicious apps have made their way onto the Google Play Store, resulting in over 4.2 million downloads. The the apps were free to download before Google removed them. The apps come with hidden malware, dubbed ExpensiveWall, that register victims for paid online services and sends fraudulent premium text messages from the smartphone leaving the victims to pay the bill.
ExpensiveWall uses advanced techniques to compress malicious code and evade the Google Play Store’s anti-malware. Even after Google removed the malicious apps, new ones emerged and were downloaded 5,000 times before being again removed.Return To Article
