Organizations are trying everything to stay relevant and in their customer’s eyes these days. Increasing their website speed is one tactic, as faster web performance usually equates to a better user experience.
Many sites use integrations with chatbots, analytics, and other widgets which — though often beneficial or even critical to operations — also bloat the site and slow it down considerably.
A new initiative from a graduate of Y Combinator, a startup support program, aims to increase page speed with just one line of code. The
Zaraz works by surveying a website’s third party tools and connects to the services, alleviating the browser from executing scripts.
This recent VentureBeat report has more details:
“Companies with a high volume of traffic care a lot about page speed,” Zaraz cofounder and CEO Yair Dovrat told VentureBeat. “They know that milliseconds make millions, and they usually calculate how much a 100-millisecond improvement is worth to them. So when we speak about an acceleration of a few seconds, they’re immediately hooked.”
Digging down into the nuts and bolts of what exactly Zaraz does reveals that the platform doesn’t give each third-party tool the same treatment. After all, each integration serves a different purpose, and sometimes loading in the browser might be necessary for the function it’s designed to perform.
“Each tool is different, but the concept is to run whatever we can on our backend instead of in the browser, leaving it to focus on loading the customer’s website,” Dovrat said. “While other solutions serve all website visitors with the same script and then evaluate it in the browser, we do this on our backend.”
Of course, ecommerce sites aren’t the only ones that benefit from better user experience. User experience is an increasingly important part in a world where more and more of your user base grew up with — and therefore has higher expectations of — the internet and the services they purchase online.
